Benchmark Almanac

KellyBench

Not in model cards

Agents bet through a simulated 2023 to 24 English Premier League season with historical data. The score is long-term bankroll growth.

At launch every tested frontier model lost money. Covered in Latent Space AINews on 2026-04-09.

In the authors’ words

Language models are saturating benchmarks for procedural tasks with narrow objectives. But they are increasingly being deployed in long-horizon, non-stationary environments with open-ended goals. In this paper we introduce KellyBench, an environment for evaluating sequential decision-making in sports betting markets. Agents are placed in a sequential simulation of the 2023-24 English Premier League season and tasked with maximising their long-term bankroll growth. They are given detailed historical data, including advanced statistics, lineups, and public odds. To succeed they must build machine learning models, identify edge in public markets, and adapt as the environment changes over time. We find that all frontier models evaluated lose money on average over the course of the season for five seeds. The best performing model achieves an average return of -8%, and many models experiencing ruin across seeds. To judge strategy sophistication, we use a human expert rubric to grade each model and find their approaches to be unsophisticated compared to human baselines; Claude Opus 4.6 achieves a rubric score of 26.5%, which means there is significant room for improvement. KellyBench is available as an open-access API endpoint at https://openreward.ai/GeneralReasoning/KellyBench.

  • ForecastBench In use Models give probabilities for 500 auto-generated questions per round about future events, drawn from prediction markets and time-series datasets. Forecasts are scored with difficulty-adjusted Brier scores once the questions resolve. Claude 3 Haiku 44.7
  • Prophet Arena In use Models and agents forecast open Kalshi prediction-market events and are scored once the events resolve. The live board ranks a difficulty-adjusted Arena score and also reports calibration error and market return. Claude Opus 5.5 86.0
  • Echo General AI Prediction Leaderboard Not in model cards Models forecast unresolved events drawn from prediction markets, synthesized news questions and expert-written questions. Forecasts made at aligned times are compared in pairwise battles, and an Elo fit ranks the models. DeepSeek-V4-Pro 1,018
  • Human Behavior Bench Not in model cards Models predict how specified groups of U.S. adults answer closed survey questions, as a distribution over options. Scored as 1 minus total variation distance. Gemini 4 Argon 80.6
  • BTF-3 Not in model cards Agents forecast already-resolved binary and numeric questions while researching a frozen snapshot of the web. Scoring pools Brier and ranked probability scores. Claude Opus 5 0.12
  • BackSearch Not in model cards Paid API that searches a frozen web archive as of a given date, for forecasting backtests and reproducible web-enabled evals. A tool, not a benchmark.
