FrontierMath: Open Problems
Not in model cards
Models attack unsolved research math problems proposed by working mathematicians. Each problem has a program that checks a proposed solution. Epoch tracks which problems AI has solved.
Pilot launched in January 2026. Expanded to 50 problems in July 2026. Epoch says it gives no comparable model score, only counts of problems solved by AI.
- Level
- Research frontier Researchers, on open problems or tasks that take days
- Scored
- Checked automatically A program checks the result against an answer key, unit tests or the expected final state.
- Answers
- Short answer A number, word or short string matched to a key.
